Computer Virus – Everyone is worried about it and wants to safeguard their data from them. Even though there are many precautions available, but in this digital world the number of threats are increasing daily.
Even after taking several precautions, if you feel that you have been infected with virus, we will show step by step process on how to remove the virus.
Important : Before starting on to remove virus from computer, we need to find out whether your computer has been infected by virus. What ever the reason which makes you to think that your computer may have been infected by virus, it is advisable to follow these steps in How to find whether your computer has been infected by virus.
Here we go:
1. Check whether you can open anti-virus program. If you can, update the anti virus software to the latest version and run a complete virus scan to your computer. If scan finds any virus, follow the instructions shown in the screen to remove the virus.
Updating your anti virus is crucial as there might be some updates given for the latest virus and if your anti virus is not updated, there is high possibility that it might not come up in the virus scanner.
Alternatively, you can search for online virus scanners. These scanners will scan for active viruses in your memory and report if they find any. These scanners will be updated and can give you a clean scan of memory. If it finds any virus, you can follow the instructions to clean up the virus. But this does not guarantee that your computer is virus free, as some viruses may reside in your hard disk. To eliminate the virus in your hard disk, you might need to download a anti virus software.
Once anti virus has cleaned the virus from your computer, restart your computer and run virus scanner again. If virus doesn’t pop up this time, you are good to go. Else repeat the process untill the virus is cleaned from your computer.
Even after multiple times virus is not cleaned from your computer, then skip to step 3.
If you can’t open, skip to next step.
2. If you can’t open the anti virus, some virus present in your memory may block your anti virus from opening.
Start your computer in safe mode. Safe Mode will load only the core files required for your operating system, which may not load the virus into the memory. This provides opportunity to run the anti virus scanner during this time and remove the virus.
Follow the process outlined in step 1.
3. If your virus scanner finds some virus but unable to remove the virus, make a note of the virus name shown by your virus scanner. Search online on how to remove the virus with your virus name to find steps to remove the virus.
Though modern virus scanner are sophisticated to remove viruses, there are some viruses which are smart enough to replicate/avoid the cleaning of the virus. So it may be necessary to remove the virus manually by following the steps given online.
